Just realised I've already posted a side on here which is identical to what I just did, minus Song.

I might have brain damage.

Interesting prematch ritual

I can see Carroll playing a big part in the latter stages from the bench

Antonio, Lanzini and Song all to come on from the bench when Sunderland are tired. The former could probably do with a rest. Getting bloody tough to pick an XI from all the available options, which is great!

Reid, Carroll and Sakho all back in training, so maybe too soon for any of them? Would like to see Sakho get a run out though.

A nice bit of cheating against BFS or simply can't count past 10?

The Jewel and Dimmy tend to switch around so they'll start like this but will be fluid.

I'd love us to start with an attacking line up. They are defensively fragile, score early and its game over.

Re: Team v Sunderland
I can see Sunderland kicking us off the park. Cattermole is just one. Everton did a job on us and they will try to do the same. I would start Obiang with Kouyate and Noble to muscle up our midfield as that is where the game will be decided.

I would also play Antonio at right back as more experienced and provides a greater threat going forward.

Lanzini should start as he is so quick and such a great passer (he completed 100% all 30+ passes v Blackburn). We need to keep possession, also more chance of Payet getting chopped down and injured in the centre. He will do just as much damage on the right. We can always move him to the centre if not working. Emeneke has to start as only striker fully fit and scored 2 last game, but not convinced against premiership quality so would bring Carroll on if fit 2nd half.

Obiang

Noble Kouyate

Payet Lanzini Moses

Re: Team v Sunderland
Agree it will be a tough game! They are in decent form and BFS will be desperate for a result.

If we don't score the first goal, I can't see us winning the game.

I'd set up as follows:

----------------- Spanish Beer

Byram - Collins - Ogbonna - Cresswell

--------------- Noble - Kouyate

Antonio ------------Payet ------------ Moses

-------------------- Emineke

If Sunderland are frustrating us and are not interested in winning the game (We've seen that a few times under OAF); I'd put Antonio right back and bring on Lanzini.

It's great to have options! I also feel bad on Obiang as I think he's a great player and deserves a start but can't drop MN or CK.

Cattermole on Payet *gulp*

I-ron

Agreed, they are down the bottom for a reason. A midfield 3 of Cattermole, Mvilla and Kirchoff should be beaten easily if we play well and get Payet on the ball in the hole. Defoe and Van Arnhault only two to worry about for me

Re: Team v Sunderland
I'd play Payet in the middle. His passing was outrageous the other day. Spraying some Pirlo-esque balls about. Two wide men either side. Tidy.

Re: Team v Sunderland
I get the feeling some people are taking this game to lightly.

Sunderland have lost 0-1 to Man City in the last 4 games and BFS has added some very good players to his side since January.

They have a tough, hard working midfield and will pack it out in an attempt to dominate that area and if we allow that then we are going to have a real problem.

"Let them worry about us"

Exactly, why set up to counter what they will do when we have the better players. We have sacrificed the initiative so many times against "lesser" teams.

Re: Team v Sunderland
Yes, I agree, three in the middle has to happen. Sam will play four in there if he can and we'll lose the midfield battle

Re: Team v Sunderland
whufcroe 12:24 Thu Feb 25

Let them worry about us

With Payet Lanzini and Moses as the 3 behind the striker with the 2 fullbacks bombing on we should be too much for them if we play well

4-3-3 just doesn't seem to work as well when we play at home

ironsofcanada 12:30 Thu Feb 25
Re: Team v Sunderland
whufcroe 12:24 Thu Feb 25

Yes, I think we can. I think Payet can dribble and pass around those five midfielders especially if Lanzini gets some time providing another option.

And we need a quick start.

But as I and you said (essentially): we will see. We are both whistling Dixie after all.

whufcroe 12:29 Thu Feb 25
Re: Team v Sunderland
You play three in the middle then you have a midfielder to cover the left when Payet drifts inside. If you have two midfielders then you're limiting Payet and he needs to play a more disciplined role for the team.
